LIFE TIP:
When writing an email to a landlord inquiring about a rental:
Do:
-
State who you are and why you need a rental
-
Mention where you found their ad and how you can afford the rental
-
Offer to provide references (work/volunteer/housing office)
-
Include some highlighting feature from the original ad so that when you receive a response you can remember which rental you are talking about (ex. 4-bedroom 2.5-bath townhome in Seabright, address if provided).
-
Ask for pictures of the rental if the ad posted has indicated that pictures are available upon request
-
Ask questions about pertinent facts that may not be included in the ad. For examples see Questions to Ask About a Rental.
-
Keep your email concise. Landlords may be receiving dozens if not HUNDREDS of responses to their ads. You may want to use the Hemingway App. to help you with this.
Don't:
-
Mention your age
-
Include a link to your social media
-
Show that you haven’t fully read the ad by asking questions already answered in the ad.

Purchasing Major Household Items
Paying for Major Purchases (continued)
The following chart compares some other ways you might fund major purchases:

*Credit Cards also have insurance which helps protect your money from theft and fraud.
As you can see, there can be a lot of differences in the interest charges for various sources of credit. It is important to plan for and consider carefully what options are available, and which make the most sense economically when making major purchases. When using credit, calculate the total cost of your purchase including all the interest payments you will make over the term of the loan. With high-interest rates, you very possibly might pay more than double the original purchase price.
